Program Overview
Financial assistance provided through the General Assistance Program may include rent, board and room, utilities, and non-food vouchers. Out-of-county transportation is provided in certain situations. Assistance is limited to those persons in Sarpy County between the ages of 19 and 64 who are not eligible for other public assistance and/or do not have sufficient income or resources to meet all or part of their shelter needs.
For questions about the General Assistance Program, please contact the Human Services Department by phone or email.
Eligibility
Eligibility is based on income and resources, with $35,000 maximum equity in a home and $7000 maximum in one vehicle being exempted. Monthly income and resource guidelines vary based on the number of related persons in the household, for example, one-person household $525 and two person household $550.
General Assistance is a temporary solution and does have work requirements. If an exemption has not been granted, all recipients are expected to actively seek employment while they are receiving assistance.
Payments
All General Assistance payments are made directly to the landlord, and/or utility company. Vouchers are provided to purchase non-food items at Family Fare Supermarket.
