Traffic Enforcement in Sarpy County
The Special Services Unit of the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office leads the mission in traffic enforcement. Deputies employ different techniques of enforcing the rules of the road, educate the public, and provide visual deterrents for bad driving behavior. The goal of the Sarpy County Sheriff's Office is to make traveling on our roadways as safe as possible in a rapidly growing county.
Radar Trailers & Signs
The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office utilizes portable displays on a trailer and pole-mounted options that use radar to display a vehicle's speed to the driver. These devices will also collect traffic survey data to aid in determining the best time to address high violation times.
Sarpy County Traffic Task Force
The Sarpy County Sheriff's Office is the founding agency of the Sarpy County Traffic Task Force. As a response to a record-setting number of traffic crash fatalities in 2019, the law enforcement agencies of Sarpy County formed the "Sarpy County Traffic Task Force". The Task Force utilizes resources from the Sheriff's Office, Bellevue Police Department, La Vista Police Department, and Papillion Police Department to employ different techniques of enhanced traffic law enforcement. The goal is to reduce the number of traffic crashes and fatalities on all Sarpy County roadways.
The Sarpy County Traffic Task Force has received over $150,000 in grant funding from the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office to offset overtime costs and allow for additional patrols on Sarpy County streets.
