Mission Statement
“The Sarpy County Department of Corrections seeks to provide for the community peace and protection through the secure and humane confinement of those persons remanded to the custody of Corrections.”
It is the legal and moral obligation of the Sarpy County Department of Corrections to provide a safe, sanitary, and secure place of detention for all persons confined in the Jail for detention or correction. The Sarpy County Department of Corrections shall provide such a place in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws, and the Nebraska Jail Standards.
The Sarpy County Department of Corrections shall protect the community by securely holding persons who are determined by the courts to pose a threat to public safety. Further, the Sarpy County Department of Corrections shall protect all inmates and staff. This includes a zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual assault, rape, and sexual misconduct committed by inmates or staff. It is the policy of the Sarpy County Jail to fully investigate and take appropriate action against any individual involved in such conduct.
It is the goal of the Sarpy County Department of Corrections to return inmates to the community in no worse condition than when they were committed to the custody of the facility. The Sarpy County Department of Corrections shall strive to return inmates in an improved condition, physically and emotionally.
To achieve these ends, the Sarpy County Department of Corrections shall employ highly trained, Correction Officers to provide a secure, safe, efficient, and humane facility.
The Sarpy County Department of Corrections is a public service institution that has an integral place in the public safety of the community and is therefore obligated to keep the public informed of its costs and the effect of policies, and legislation governing and impacting the operation of this facility.
