Eret to lead Sarpy County Emergency Management

Jesse Eret

The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners today approved the selection of Jesse Eret as the new director of the Sarpy County Emergency Management Agency. Eret has been with the agency since 2016.

“Jesse has proven to be a dynamic leader during his tenure with the county. He played a crucial role in our flood recovery efforts in 2019, and we’ve made a great choice in selecting him for this role. He possesses the expertise and experience to lead this important department,” Sarpy County Board Chairman Don Kelly said.

Eret coordinated with community organizations involved in response and recovery efforts and helped establish the Sarpy County Long-Term Recovery Group after historic flooding in Sarpy County in 2019. He is the chairperson of the Sarpy County Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Emergency Management Committee for the Tri-County Homeland Security Working Group. He also is a member of the Executive Committee for the Omaha Metropolitan Healthcare Coalition.

Before joining Sarpy County, Eret served as the State Continuity of Operations Program Manager for the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. There, he assisted in the development and revision of several emergency operations and continuity of operations plans and served as a director of the State Emergency Operations Center during numerous disasters.

The Sarpy County Emergency Management Agency protects Sarpy County communities by coordinating and integrating all activities necessary to build, sustain and improve the capability to mitigate against, prepare for, respond to and recover from threatened or actual natural disasters, acts of terrorism or other man-made disasters.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity and am excited to continue working with our community partners to build the disaster resiliency of Sarpy County,” Eret said.

Eret has served as the acting director of the agency since late September. The previous director, Lynn Marshall, died last year.
