The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners today permanently appointed Trace Jones to the office of County Treasurer. The board unanimously passed a resolution appointing Jones for remainder of the current term of office, which ends in December 2022.
Jones has served as interim Treasurer since April 2021. Prior to his appointment, he was the county’s Veterans Service Officer.
“Trace’s experience managing multimillion dollar budgets and providing financial oversight for military operations makes him ideally suited to be the Sarpy County Treasurer,” Sarpy County Board Chairman Don Kelly said. “In the time he’s been leading the Treasurer’s Office, we’ve seen his commitment to improving service, and we know the office is in good hands.”
Jones served for 28 years in the United States Air Force, retiring as Command Chief Master Sergeant of the 100th Air Refueling Wing. While serving at Ramstein, Germany, Jones directed the planning and budgeting for communication and IT projects in excess of $24 million annually; conducted audits of military postal accounts to reconcile $36 million in annual transactions; and managed a $10 million annual budget.
Jones received his bachelor’s degree from Bellevue University and his master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.
“I’m excited to continue running this office,” Jones said. “We will be fiscally responsible and deliver great service. Sarpy taxpayers deserve a high functioning, efficient Treasurer’s Office, and that’s what we’re going to continue to give them.”
