2022 Annual Report: Connecting Sarpy County

DJI_0080

The CONNECTSarpy – West Sarpy Road Program is paving, widening and improving a 9-square-mile area between Harrison Street and Highway 370 from 168th to 204th Streets.

Without making these improvements, new developments and neighborhoods would stall.

“This road program is an investment as we grow,” said County Commissioner Jim Warren. “Northwest Sarpy County has gone from gravel roads to a complex road network. That’s a real benefit for not only the people who live there, but for those who frequent the area businesses and schools.”

In 2022, the teams working on the CONNECTSarpy – West Sarpy project:

  • Paved an additional six lane miles of 180th Street, Lincoln Road and Giles Road.
  • Paved the majority of sidewalk and trails along 180th Street, Meridian Street and Giles Road.
  • Opened the roundabouts on 180th Street at Cornhusker Road, Camelback Avenue and Lincoln Road.
  • Activated the traffic signal at 180th Street and Giles Road.
  • Completed the 180th Street overpass over the BNSF Railway railroad tracks and South Papillion Creek.
  • Completed and fully reopened 180th Street from Highway 370 to Harrison Street.

The Giles Road overpass over the BNSF Railway tracks and the Giles Road bridge over the South Papillion Creek also saw significant progress in 2022.

The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners authorized issuing $90 million in bonds for this road program without a tax increase. The project remains on time and under budget, with about $30 million remaining to spend.

The full project is set for completion in late 2023.
