Sarpy County residents are invited to honor first responders for their extraordinary service to our community during the annual Salute to Public Safety event.
The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, at the Shadow Lake Hy-Vee at 11650 S. 73rd Street in Papillion. A ceremony will include an opening prayer, the National Anthem and a Presentation of Colors by area veterans, along with a moment of silence and a special memorial tribute to the Sept. 11 tragedy.
U.S. Rep. Don Bacon, Papillion Fire Chief Robb Gottsch and Sarpy County Commissioner David Klug will make remarks.
Sarpy County residents who are metro area law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS and 911 dispatchers are encouraged to attend. Reserved parking will be available for emergency vehicles. Attendees are invited to bring signs and flags.
Hy-Vee will provide a free breakfast to all on- and off-duty first responders, their spouses and children under 10 from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. Also in conjunction with this event, the American Red Cross will host a blood drive in its bus in the Shadow Lake Hy-Vee parking lot from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Make an appointment here.
“This event is a way to thank a first responder in person, and really show them and their families our appreciation for their sacrifices,” said organizer Russ Zeeb, who retired from the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office. “I want to give special thanks to the Shadow Lake Hy-Vee and Store Director Dan Fuller for their ongoing support.”
