The Sarpy County Board of Commissioners today appointed Ryan Mahr to lead the Sarpy County Corrections Department.
“We are thrilled Ryan is bringing his talent and passion to Sarpy County,” Sarpy County Board Chairman Don Kelly said. “Ryan has the experience and expertise we need as we build and plan the operations for the new Sarpy County Correctional Center.”
Mahr will start June 14. As Corrections Director, his salary will be $126,279.
Mahr comes to Sarpy County from the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, where he has held various positions since 1985. Most recently, he was warden of the Community Corrections Center in Omaha. In that role, he oversaw operations and programs in a community custody setting that helped prepare inmates return to their communities. He also served as warden of the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility.
Mahr is a graduate of Bellevue University and served in the United States Marine Corps and United States Army Reserve. He is a veteran of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Desert Storm/Shield.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to join Sarpy County and to lead the transition to the new Correctional Center,” Mahr said. “Sarpy has a number of innovative programs under way, including a partnership with UNMC for a psychiatric fellowship and a dedicated behavioral health unit at the new facility, and I look forward to implementing those programs and others.”
